STEM & National Education Policy 2020

STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering Mathematics and STEM Education refers to studying this concepts in school with a practical approach through experiments.

A STEM curriculum is designed to provide its students with maximum possible practical exposure and hands-on experience in a particular field. It offers a perfect blend of course modules with a few mandatory lab assignments and group projects, which help in learning through practical implementation of theoretical knowledge.

National Education Policy, 2020

National Education Policy (NEP) states, “Curriculum content will be reduced in each subject to its core essentials, to make space for critical thinking and more holistic, inquiry-based, discovery-based, discussion-based, and analysis -based learning. The mandated content will focus on key concepts, ideas, applications, and problem-solving. Teaching and learning will be conducted in a more interactive manner; questions will be encouraged, and classroom sessions will regularly contain more fun, creative, collaborative, and exploratory activities for students for deeper and more experiential learning.”

How STEM helps in implementing NEP?

NEP mentions that the report card of the child must include the skilled or vocational topics along with the subjective topics. Earlier rote memorization of the topics was the basis of assessing a child’s learnings. Now, it has shifted to competency-based which promotes more analysis and conceptual clarity in child’s learning graphs. This purpose of assessment fulfills the desire to improve the whole schooling system and brings a continuous revision to the teaching-learning process for the development of a student. STEM brings out the best in performance to assess on, helps to review your so far learning, and so analyze your knowledge and helps in the holistic development of a child. It signifies

  • Marks are going to be just a number.

  • Your child’s future is all about the skills and techniques that he/she can retain. When we talk about skills, we mean the correlation of their theoretical knowledge into practical knowledge which can be applied in the real world.

  • This kind of education, especially for subjects like science and math's, can be covered by STEM education. The aforesaid, high-quality education will do best for countries like us which have a maximum youth population to enrich their talent and do the best resource utility by next decade.

  • The kind of quality and practical education that we used to get earlier in higher education as in college or other institutes will now provide at school level only.

  • The young minds will be developed with all the experiential learning to utilize the knowledge in the real world.

  • NEP has filled the gaps of Research and Development which includes all the key components for any country’s success and development.

National Education Policy & STEM at ‘STEM for you’

NEP has emphasized on the teacher-kid ratio for better learning in its circular. Following the same, we at STEM for you provide 1: 1 online interactive session to our students. NEP clearly supported the online educational programs stating that once internet-connected smart gadgets are available in every home and/or school, digital pedagogy will be introduced and the teaching-learning process will be enriched with online resources and collaborations. If you already have a laptop or desktop with good internet connectivity, why to wait? STEM for you is here to help our budding genius’ to educate in STEM activities for kids by providing online STEM classes. It’s a hands-on learning approach we follow through the very basic material available at home.
